The MacManus Music Project is the brain child of our founder Ruairi MacManus. A fourth generation musician, he inherits an incredible musical legacy as the youngest of five brothers: the eldest, Declan (better known as Elvis Costello); the second youngest, Ronan MacManus, is the lead singer of The Bible Code Sundays and their father was the well known Big Band Jazz singer, Ross MacManus.

Ruairi grew up surrounded by music. As soon as he could talk he was singing and could be found regularly performing with his brothers and father on stage at every opportunity. He was invited to audition and subsequently selected to sing in the prestigious Brompton Oratory Choir at 10 years of age.

A talented multi instrumentalist and vocalist, he explored a wide range of instruments and musical styles. At the tender age of 13 he began performing professionally in the traditional Irish music band, Slainte. Many bands followed through his teenage years, studying music at Brunel University - Jazz, Gospel, Rock, Folk and Classical music ensembles were all explored.

Following university, a band containing four of the five MacManus brothers pursued and secured a record deal under the name Riverway. An EP release prompted tours of the UK and Europe, playing at venues such as Wembley Arena, The Albert Hall, Birmingham NEC and even Hyde Park alongside multiple TV and radio interviews.

Following the decision to break from the record deal, music transitioned from career into a hobby. Ruairi entered the world of business, working in the Recruitment Industry, starting out as a consultant and ultimately establishing his own recruitment business. He never stopped performing solo and in bands. A prolific songwriter, this led to some of his songs being recorded and released by other artists. He continued to teach students and run choirs in his spare time.

Covid affected us all. Following a series of life changing events, like many, he took the opportunity to re-asses what he wanted out of life. The MacManus Music Project was created and it’s aim is simple: to empower people to be inspired by music, explore the many different genres or styles, learn to sing or play with confidence and to create music that brings joy and inspire minds young and old. Aiming to positively impact the Mental Health and wellbeing of others is the driving force behind the project.
